Helen asks…
How much is an LA Fitness membership?
I just moved to Milwaukee and had a chance to peek in the Bayshore LA Fitness. I didn’t have time to tour it so I didn’t get any membership quotes. Does anyone have a membership there and can let me know the membership fees?

Drae answers:
At my place it’s $50 initiation fee and $29.99 per month. When you walk in LA fitness, there are sale representatives that come up to you, trying to give you deals for their club. They will start out with an outrageous price like $150 initiation fee with $29.99 per month. You would have to bargain with them in order for them to lower their fees. Even when they sound desperate and say that this deal will only last for today, it’s probably BS.

What is your number one fitness/health/weight loss tip?
What is your number one health, fitness, or weight loss tip, quote, site, or insight? Also, how much weight have you lost, if any?
Thanks!!

Drae answers:
My first tip is determination….if you don’t apply yourself to exercising and eating a healthy diet then you are going to waste your time more than anything else.
I jog for 15 minutes daily, chest on mondays followed by biceps, triceps, back/shoulders, squats.
Diet is the most important factor that affects the weight so I stay away from fats and junk foods.

Paying Bally Total Fitness person trainer under the table OK?
I was given a quote for 8 personal training sessions of $400 at Bally Totally Fitness. What if I approached a personal trainer at Bally’s total fitness and asked them if they’d be interested in doing business on a side? Is it ethical? Or am I completely out of line?

Drae answers:
It would be unethical for the trainer and morally wrong on your behalf.

James asks…
Does anyone have prices for Lifetime Fitness memberships?
I want to get a quote on the lowest membership, or all of them if you k ow what they are!

Drae answers:
Peruse the websites of several of the fitness centers close to where you live. I’d expect that some would be willing to negotiate on price.

Sandy asks…
What is the average price for a basic membership at Lifestyle Family Fitness?
I was quoted $41.00/month, but that seems steep.

Drae answers:
It depends on the location of the Lifestyle that you go to. The different clubs have different membership options. I used to sell memberships at a LFF in FL and they had three different types of memberships that ranged from 41.99 (one club) to 61.99 a month (premier). That was in addition to a processing fee of 20.00, enrollment fee, and first and last months dues up front. So it was anywhere between 150 and 200 dollars when you first sign up. And then they charge you again in 2 weeks because the “first month” you pay is actually pro-rated until your first billing cycle, which is always two weeks from the date you sign up.
Make sure you really read your contract as well as the cancellation policy. I worked with numerous people at that place that would trick you into signing up under false pretenses. Pay close attention to the 4-week comfort guarantee and the fact that you have to be in the club at least 12 times during your first 30 days for you to get your money back. They also require a credit card to be on file for them to pull your money from so you ‘re never late on payments.
Also, I worked there last year and every year they raise their monthly dues by about a dollar….so the prices may even be more than that.
And what club are you looking to join?
