Sandra asks…
What is the best way to warm up your muscles for a show?
I’m in a show at my high school with categories much like a pageant. I’m not a bodybuilder but I am an athlete in decent shape so I’d like to know the best way to warm up my muscles (arms, chest, abdominals primarily) to ensure I look my best on the stage. Are basic push-ups etc. the best way to go or are there any other suggestions?

Drae answers:
Pushups, And use barbells for your arms..get those veins poppin!

Linda asks…
What are these abdominal muscles (picture) and how you work them out?
I’ve noticed some guys have these wierd v’shaped muscles near their lower abdominals.
I found a great picture, and ive outlined it to show exactly what im talking about:

What are those?
And more importantly, how do you work those out to achieve that type of definition?

Drae answers:
The side ones are external oblique muscles, the center one is part of rectus abdominis (your abs).
Right external oblique is activated when twisting left and left external oblique is activated when twisting right.
Abdominal strengthening exercises will help with strengthening. Toning/definition only happens once you have no fat, but:
Perform cardio before your workout (just doing situps barely does anything) you need to get your cardiovascular system going before you can burn fat and increase muscle., contract and flex your abdomen between sets, crunches, side crunches, lying leg lifts, hanging leg raises, V-Crunches all help strengthen the abs…. Workouts shouldn’t be more than 20minutes of focused attention on your abs or you’ll weaken them.
Best exercise plan just for abs:
10mins cardio, 2 abdomen-focused exercises at 3-5mins each, 5 mins cardio, 2 abdomen-focused exercises at 3-5mins each, 10mins cardio, cool down.

Jenny asks…
Does John Morrison’s abdominals compare to my abdominal muscles?

Susan asks…
what muscles groups should i work on to improve my time in the 500 freestyle competitive swim event?
i need to know what muscles are used so i can find other ways to tone these muscles to improve my time.
i would like to focus on muscles in the legs and abdominals if possible.

Drae answers:
This is a video of what muscles are used in the Freestyle stroke!
Work out on ONLY the Primary muscles that are highlighted in yellow!

Lizzie asks…
Where are each of the following muscles located?
Where are each of the following muscles located: deltoids, pectorals, abdominals, biceps, quadriceps and gluteus maximus

Drae answers:
The ‘Deltoid’ is the three-sectioned muscle forming a downward triangle (delta) on the SHOULDER.
The ‘Pectorals’ are each located over the CHEST or Pectoral region (there is a minor over the rib cage and a major that connects from the sternum to the humerus).
The ‘Abdominals’ are several muscles in the ABDOMINAL or abdomen region. This is between the chest and the groin if you aren’t sure. They include rectus abdominus, oblique external, oblique internal.
There are 2 biceps; the ‘Biceps Brachialis’ is in the ARM or the Brachial region. The ‘Biceps Femoris’ is on the femur or the thigh region.
The ‘Quadriceps’ can only refer to the ‘Quadriceps Femoris’ which is a grouping of four muscles (the rectus femoris, the vastus medilais, the vastus lateralis, and the biceps femoris). All of these are on the femur or the thigh region.
The ‘Gluteus Maximus’ is the largest muscle of the GLUTEAL region, or your buttocks. It is the big, fan-shaped muscle that most people bruise when falling. There is also a ‘Gluteus Minimus and Medius in the same region.
I hope this helps. I loved anatomy and physiology especially the class dedicated to musculoskeletal anatomy. Muscle Man! Good luck!
